The New York Hotel Savings That Could Fund Your Entire Sightseeing Budget

If you save money on your hotel, could you have a better New York experience? My guess is yes...

Why I Looked Into This

I keep seeing travellers focus on finding the perfect hotel. One with the bigger room, better view or ideal location.

But I wonder whether some travellers might be putting too much of their budget into accommodation and not enough into the experiences that make a trip truly memorable.

So I looked at three New York hotels (The Frederick Hotel Tribeca, Hotel Seville NoMad & Ink 48 Hotel) for the same dates (22–29 August 2026 for two adults) and compared travel membership pricing against publicly available rates. Then I asked a simple question:

What could those savings actually buy you in New York in terms of experiences?

What I Compared

For consistency, I looked at:

  • The same travel dates in August 2026

  • Two adults

  • Standard room categories where available

  • Public Booking.com prices

  • Available travel member pricing

I wasn't comparing facilities, reviews or hotel quality (although all are highly rated 4 or 5*) - this was purely about price differences and what those differences might mean for a traveller's overall vacation/trip budget.

The Numbers

I discovered that the average saving across the three hotels with a travel membership was £483/$645. Here's how the numbers break down:

Travel Membership pricing can be a lot less than public pricing

The biggest saving was at Hotel Seville NoMad, where the difference between the two prices was £617/$824.

What Experiences £617/$824 Could Buy You In New York

Using the largest hotel saving I found (Hotel Seville NoMad). I looked into some popular New York experiences for two people and the cost of them:

Average cost of activities in NYC

Even after paying for all of those experiences, booking the Hotel Seville NoMad through a travel membership means there would still be £223/$300 in savings remaining.

That's enough for:

  • Several meals

  • Airport transfers

  • Additional sightseeing

  • A shopping budget

  • Or simply money left in your bank account

What Stood Out

The most interesting finding wasn't the hotel prices - it was how quickly the savings added up.

A £617/$824 difference sounds significant when you're booking, but it becomes much more tangible when you realise it could cover:

  • A Broadway show

  • A visit to the Statue of Liberty

  • Top of the Rock experience

  • Central Park bike hire

  • Rooftop cocktails...

...and still leave you with money left over.

This isn't an argument for booking the cheapest hotel available, it's simply a reminder that every pound or dollar spent on accommodation is a pound or dollar that can't be spent elsewhere.

And so for travellers who care about experiences, it's worth considering whether booking the most expensive room actually delivers the best overall trip.

It's also a good example of why some travellers explore alternative booking methods, member pricing and travel memberships. Public prices don't always tell the full story.

Is It Worth It?

That depends on why you're travelling.

If the hotel itself or the platform or website you book it on is the experience, paying more may make perfect sense.

But if you're planning to spend your days exploring New York, seeing shows, visiting attractions and eating out, then accommodation becomes just one part of the overall budget.

Looking at these numbers, I'd personally struggle to justify paying an extra £617/$824 for the same room if that saving could fund several memorable experiences instead.

The real question isn't which hotel or booking site is best? It's where will this money have the biggest impact on my trip?
