Google images of Ksamil in Albania and then google images of Corfu. Notice anything? They look like pretty much the same place, right? Looking purely at photos, you'd struggle to tell some parts of Ksamil and Corfu apart.
The two destinations sit just a few miles apart across the Ionian Sea, and in fact, on a clear day you can see Corfu from the Albanian coastline. And even though they're two different countries, both offer the things most travellers are looking for in a summer holiday:
Crystal-clear turquoise water
Beautiful beaches and hidden coves
Warm Mediterranean sunshine
Family-friendly hotels
Boat trips and waterfront restaurants
That relaxed, switched off holiday feeling
So if they look so similar and offer the same kinds of experiences, why are more people talking about Albania?
The answer? Price.
The Cost Difference Is Hard To Ignore
I compared a selection of similar 4 and 5-star hotels with breakfast included for a family of four travelling in July (2026) for 7 nights. Here's what I found...
Corfu - Prices ranged from: £1,381 to £16,339 ($1,844 - $21,824)
Ksamil, Albania - Prices ranged from: £913 to £1,291 ($1,219 - $1,724)
These weren't simply the cheapest hotels I could find in each destination, but a selection of comparable properties to give a more realistic picture of the difference. But even comparing the lowest-priced options, Ksamil came out around 34% cheaper!
That's a saving of £468 ($625) on a single family holiday.
At the higher end of the market, the difference became even more dramatic, with some comparable stays costing over £15,000 ($20,035) less in Ksamil than in Corfu.

Why Families Are Looking At Albania

For many travellers, it's not about finding the absolute cheapest holiday, it's about getting more for the money they're already planning to spend. A family budget that stretches to a standard hotel in Corfu may be enough for a higher-rated property in Ksamil.
Others are simply looking at those turquoise-water, beach-club-style holidays and asking whether they can get the same feeling without paying Greek island prices.
And increasingly, the answer is yes.
Is Ksamil Better Than Corfu?
Truthfully, not necessarily. Corfu has a longer tourism history, more established resorts, a larger choice of restaurants and attractions, and more flight options from many airports.
But if your priority is beautiful beaches, clear water, sunshine and value for money, Ksamil deserves a place on your shortlist. And for some families, the savings alone make it worth considering.

Looking For Even Better Hotel Prices?
If you're planning a trip to Greece, Albania (or elsewhere in the world!) and would like to see whether you could access hotel and travel discounts (often up to as much as 49%), feel free to drop me a message. I'm always happy to show people what I've found and what's available and whether it could save them money on a trip they're already planning.
Getting more of that travel feeling doesn't mean spending more money - it just means knowing where to look!
